In the Tao Te Ching, Lao Tzu said (and I am using a translation by Henry Wei)
Without going out of doors,
one can know the world;
without looking through the window,
one can realise the Way of Heaven.
The farther one goes,
the less one knows.
Therefore the sage knows without going out,
discriminates without seeing,
and accomplishes without action.
